Flee Kenya or Live in Fear? Bernice Saroni’s Bold Call to Abducted Youths

Kenyan Abduction Survivors Told to Seek Asylum in the US
In a fiery and emotional video shared on TikTok, US-based Kenyan content creator and entrepreneur Bernice Saroni has urged recently freed Kenyan youths to flee the country and seek asylum in the United States. Her advice comes in the wake of their traumatic abductions and unlawful detentions, which have left them mentally scarred and their futures uncertain.
“Your Future in Kenya Is Ruined”
Addressing Billy Mwangi, Kibet Bull, and three other young men recently freed after weeks of isolation, Bernice didn’t mince words. She painted a grim picture of life for these young men in Kenya, citing the constant fear of being watched, lack of job opportunities, and the stigma of being marked by the oppressive system.
“It’s heartbreaking to see parents begging the government to release their children, not knowing if they are alive or dead,” Bernice shared, visibly distressed.
As a mother of four boys, she drew on her personal experience to emphasize the pain of not knowing your child’s fate. “Some parents are visiting the mortuary daily, searching for their missing children. It’s unbearable,” she lamented.
Why the US?
Bernice argued that the United States offers a lifeline for the abducted youths, citing its robust asylum system that has granted refuge for far less serious circumstances.
“Your life in Kenya is ruined. You don’t know if you’re being watched. Your fingerprints are in the system, and you can’t get good conduct clearance. That means no good jobs, no government opportunities, and no freedom. In the US, you can live without fear and rebuild your life,” she urged.
A Scathing Critique of the Government
In her impassioned plea, Bernice didn’t hold back in criticizing the Kenyan government for allowing such abductions to occur, accusing them of turning parents’ lives into daily nightmares.
“I don’t know how we got here. The system is broken, and it’s messing up innocent lives. These youths deserve a chance to heal and thrive, and that chance is not in Kenya,” she declared.
A Call to Action
While many have expressed sympathy for the abducted youths, Bernice’s suggestion to seek asylum in the US adds a bold, controversial layer to the conversation. Her call serves as a wake-up call to both the victims and a government that has failed to protect its citizens.
Will these young men take the leap and seek a fresh start in a foreign land, or will they continue to battle the oppressive systems at home? Only time will tell.
