Sharon Mwangi Gets Candid About Battling Social Media Addiction

Sharon Mwangi

Digital content creator and Christian influencer Sharon K. Mwangi has dropped a bombshell: she’s struggling with a major addiction—and it’s not what you’d expect.

In a heartfelt confession, Sharon revealed that her social media usage has spiraled out of control, robbing her of personal time, focus, and even moments with God.

My Screen Time is in Shambles”

Taking to Instagram, Sharon didn’t hold back as she described the toll social media has taken on her life.

"I have this social media addiction that I’ve been trying to beat. My screen time is crazy, I scroll mindlessly, my attention span is horrible... even my time with God, I find myself sacrificing that so I can come online and scroll mindlessly," she admitted in a video posted on her stories.

The YouTuber expressed frustration over how her scrolling habit eats into her day, leaving little room for meaningful activities.

Baby Steps Toward Recovery

Sharon shared that she’s been experimenting with tips to regain control, including a suggestion from fellow influencer Yvonne Kanyi. Inspired by Kanyi’s habit of staying off social media until noon, Sharon adopted a similar routine for her mornings—and it’s been a game-changer.

"It’s been really helpful, but I still scroll before going to bed, and I don’t know how to curb that... but it’s okay, baby steps," Sharon explained, adding that she’s determined to do better.

The 21-Day Detox Plan

To take things up a notch, Sharon has set her sights on a bold goal: a 21-day social media fast.

"At the end of the year, I want to do a 21-day fast where I don’t come on social media at all. But if you know any other tips I can try, please share," she told her followers.

In the post, Sharon admitted that even small victories—like skipping Insta stories for a day—feel like major milestones in her battle with addiction.

Asking for Help

Recognizing the power of community, Sharon encouraged her fans to share any tips they’ve found effective in overcoming social media addiction.

"Just realized yesterday I barely scrolled and didn’t watch a single Insta story, and that’s such a huge milestone for me," she wrote in her post, hinting that even small steps toward breaking free from the cycle matter.

Can Sharon Win the Fight Against Social Media?

While Sharon’s honesty is refreshing, it also highlights a struggle that many face in this digital age. As she works toward reclaiming her time and focus, her journey might just inspire others to do the same.
